Oldrati Group has been awarded for an innovative and sustainable collaboration
Decathlon Produzione Italia alongside Oldrati Group and Eso Recycling, has been awarded the prestigious Sustainable Development Award 2024 in the Circular Economy category for its innovative collaboration in producing sustainable anti-slip trekking crampons. This award, now in its fourteenth edition, is promoted by the Foundation for Sustainable Development and the Italian Exhibition Group, under the Patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, underscoring the importance of circular economy practices for a sustainable future.
An innovative and sustainable process
Thanks to the leadership of Decathlon Produzione Italia, the project enabled the production of anti-slip trekking crampons made with a compound containing approximately 40% regenerated rubber, obtained from the recovery and regeneration of inner tubes collected in Decathlon stores. The innovative devulcanization process developed by Oldrati gives new life to rubber, a natural resource historically considered non-renewable and destined for disposal at the end of its lifecycle. In this way, production scraps and rubber components from everyday items are transformed into a valuable resource, reducing environmental impact and generating new value.
Oldrati’s commitment to sustainability has deep roots: as early as the 1970s, the company took its first steps by using rubber granulate to promote more sustainable production practices. Thanks to extensive R&D testing and close collaboration with customers across various sectors, Ogreen has expanded its mission to encompass a broad portfolio of materials – from thermoplastics to rubber and silicone – leading a transformation in the sustainability of technical products.
«We are proud to transform waste materials into new resources, and to have achieved this milestone thanks to innovation and collaboration with partners like Decathlon Produzione Italia and Eso Recycling», stated Giorgia Oldrati, Strategic Marketing and CSR & DEI Manager and a member of the Group’s third generation. «This award demonstrates our commitment to making sustainability a fundamental pillar of our activity, offering solutions that contribute concretely to material circularity».
The initiative confirms Oldrati Group’s dedication to developing sustainable solutions that, through the use of regenerated materials, reduce environmental impact without compromising product quality.
The tangible impact of this commitment is extraordinary: to date, Oldrati Group has produced over 5,434 tons of regenerated material – equivalent to around 8,000 small cars – reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 3,000 tons, the same as the environmental impact of around 300,000 fir trees.
In conclusion, the Sustainable Development Award 2024 celebrates the success of the collaboration between Oldrati, Decathlon Produzione Italia, and Eso Recycling and represents the triumph of synergy among companies in promoting sustainable practices. This recognition inspires other Italian businesses to join the fight against climate change, showing that innovation and environmental responsibility can and must go hand in hand to build a better future for all.
