Pasell has been realizing concrete counterweights for household appliances for half a century. This type of component is used in washing machines as well as dishwashers and freestanding ovens. Among its strengths Pasell boasts the ability to work in co-design with customer, arriving on the market in a very short time thanks to the in-house design and manufacture of molds for the production. The Italian company has an in-house R&D department. The skills acquired allow Pasell to collaborate with large players in the industry, working alongside the customer as a partner.
“With the Whirlpool Group (now Beko Europe) – Francesco and Roberto Amitrano, respectively CEO and President of Pasell, explain – we have had a working relationship for about 40 years. And with Beko we have been working for 14 years now. We are able to engage with customers and also support them in design, putting our 50 years of know-how at their disposal”.
EPD system certification
With regard to sustainability, Pasell has obtained the EPD system (Environmental Product Declaration) certification for its counterweights as evidence of its commitment in this area. This is a document that attests to the environmental impacts related to the production of a specific product (e.g. energy and raw material consumption, waste production, atmospheric emissions, etc.). The Declaration, created on a voluntary basis and certified by an independent third party, must be prepared by referring to the product’s life cycle analysis based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study.
“This is one of the most recent initiatives in sustainability – Francesco and Roberto Amitrano say –, a topic on which there is a lot of attention today, but we have been promoting these values for a long time. For example, we use waste materials from other companies in our production cycle, and in Italy we have been implementing photovoltaic panels for more than fifteen years”.
The competitive advantage of logistics
Pasell’s long technical experience is one of the company’s strengths, but not the only one. Another competitive advantage is logistics, which allows the company to be close to the customers. Indeed, it is present in key markets such as Poland, Slovakia, Italy, and Turkey. This achievement is the result of a path of internationalization started years ago.
“We started in 1999, and in 2000 we began our first phase of internationalization in Slovakia – Francesco and Roberto Amitrano declare –. Then we undertook two more initiatives, in Wales and Russia respectively (in 2003 and 2004), which are now finished. In 2012 the Istanbul office was opened and in 2018 Pasell Poland. This path of expansion abroad has enabled us to create an international and multicultural work team, which is an asset to the Group. From the beginning, our strategy has led us to implement internationalization projects, never delocalization: we have expanded our presence in foreign markets without shutting down the production in Italy”.
Pasell recently moved its Turkish production site to Manisa, with an investment of about 1.5 million euros. One more time, the decision was made in order to offer greater proximity to the customer.
